On 5 December 2025, Free STNR was officially established as a new political party in the South Turkmen National Republic. The party was founded by Ella, who previously served as the General Secretary of the South Turkmen Democratic Party (STDP).

Free STNR was created to offer a broader, more progressive alternative within the country’s political landscape, while still maintaining cooperation with the existing democratic institutions. With Ella stepping aside from party leadership in the STDP, Thomas Ellis was selected as the party’s new General Secretary, ensuring a stable transition and continued direction for the party.

Transition of Leadership

Ella founded the South Turkmen Democratic Party on 3 October 2025 and served as its inaugural General Secretary.

Upon establishing Free STNR, she stepped down from her leadership role in the STDP to avoid concentrating political power in one party.

Thomas Ellis was appointed the new General Secretary of the STDP, taking over day-to-day leadership and guiding the party’s role within the government.

This transition was presented as a way to strengthen political pluralism while keeping both parties aligned with stable governance and shared national goals.

Views and Ideology of Free STNR

Free STNR positions itself between the Left-wing and Far-left of the political spectrum. Its platform focuses on:

Democratic socialism

Left-wing nationalism

Left-wing populism

Progressive taxation

Wealth redistribution

Secular governance with religious tolerance

The party emphasises economic fairness, expanded social protections, and a more participatory political system. It advocates using the nation’s wealth to improve living standards, reduce inequality, and support long-term social development.
